Dainius Varnas was born on 21 June 1971 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
In 1999, he earned a Diploma in Public Administration from Kaunas University of Technology.
In 1997, he obtained a Diploma in Catholic Theology from Vytautas Magnus University.
In 1989, he graduated from the Jonas Jablonskis Secondary School in Kaunas.
In 2024, before becoming a parliamentarian, he served as Director of the Transit Services and Logistics Centre.
In 2019, he worked as a teacher at Panemunės Primary School in Kaunas.
Between 2018 and 2024 he was Director of a private company UAB Grainmore Pro.
From 2014 to 2024 he worked as a teacher at the Karalius Mindaugas Vocational Training Centre.
In 2014, he worked as a lecturer at St. Ignatius of Loyola College.
In 2013–2014, he served as an assistant in the office of a Member of the European Parliament.

On 11 October 2025, Dainius Varnas announced that he was resigning from the Nemunas Dawn Party.
From 14 November 2024 until 14 October 2025, he was a member of the Nemuno Aušros parliamentary faction in the Seimas.
He has been a Member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) since 14 November 2024, serving in the 2024–2028 parliamentary term.
In 2024, he joined the newly formed political party "Nemuno Aušra" (Nemunas Dawn Party).
He was a member of the Freedom and Justice Party from 2012 to 2016.
In 2012, he joined the political party "Sąjunga TAIP" (a local party led by Artūras Zuokas) and ran for Seimas under its banner in the 2012 elections.
He was a member of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (conservative party) from 1999 until 2012.

In the October 2024 parliamentary elections, the Nemuno Aušra party won about 15% of the national vote and secured 14 seats in the Seimas (all via the multi-member list). Varnas was one of the MPs elected on that list, as he did not win a single-member constituency seat in that election.

He was a candidate in the 2020 parliamentary elections, running in the Kaunas Centro-Žaliakalnis single-member constituency as a representative of the Freedom and Justice party.
His public disclosures do not show any significant assets or business interests held by his immediate family. Moreover, Varnas has not been implicated in any cases of hiring relatives or gaining wealth through familial ties.
According to 2023 asset declarations, Dainius Varnas did not rank among the wealthiest officials – only four Seimas members declared assets over €1 million (Varnas was not one of them).
There is no indication that Dainius Varnas experienced any sudden or unclear jumps in personal wealth in recent years. His declared assets and income have remained modest, and he is not listed among the millionaire politicians in Lithuania.
From 2018 to 2021 he served as the Director of the Association of Municipalities of St. James Way of Lithuania.
In 1995, he served as the chairman of the Vytautas Magnus University Politologų Club (Political Science club).
He decided to quit the Nemuno Aušros faction in October 2025 after its leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis made controversial remarks (including anti-Semitic comments) about museum director Arūnas Gelūnas.
He has written opinion columns for the national broadcaster LRT’s news portal, providing commentary on political issues.
He initiated a draft law to reform the status of private schools in Lithuania, aiming to ensure they operate as non-profit educational institutions rather than profit-seeking companies.
He sometimes travels between Vilnius and Kaunas by train or bus (instead of by car), believing it is important to remain among ordinary people and hear their opinions.

During his initial months in Parliament, Varnas spent €2,747 of his parliamentary expense allowance, including about €1,350 on new mobile phones (for himself or his aides) and other office needs. He explained that list-elected MPs do not get municipal offices by default, so a significant part of his expenses went toward setting up an office.
He is also a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Group with the Kingdom of Spain, a role he took on 12 December 2024.
He is a deputy member of the Seimas delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, appointed on 5 December 2024.
He is a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Group with the Republic of Bulgaria in the Seimas (since 5 December 2024).
He has also contributed articles to the Catholic news portal Bernardinai.lt, such as a 2010 commentary on Lithuania’s political party system.
In 1989, he refused conscription into the Soviet Army (returning his military ID to the Soviet authorities), for which he was persecuted by the Soviet regime.
