Jurgita Šukevičienė was born on 1978-09-04 in the city of Alytus, Lithuania.
She is married to a man named Mindaugas and has two sons, Emilis and Martynas.
Since 2022, Šukevičienė has been pursuing a Master’s degree in Integrated Communication at Vytautas Magnus University.
Beyond her formal degrees, she obtained a teacher’s qualification certificate at Kaunas University of Technology in 2017 and completed professional training programs on public administration at the National School of Administration (ENA) in Paris (2016) and at the International Management Institute (IMI) in Delhi (2015).
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in French Philology from Vytautas Magnus University in 2001 and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Kaunas University of Technology in 2004.
Since 2023, she has been the director of MB Jurgimeda, a small private company in the medical services sector.
From 2016 to 2019, Šukevičienė worked as an advisor to a member of the Seimas (Member of Parliament).
From 2011 to 2016 she was the chief specialist of the Public Relations Division at the Alytus City Municipality Administration.
Between 2005 and 2011, she was a project manager and language lecturer at the American English School in Alytus, teaching English and French.
She also held management roles in the private sector, serving as Director of the Europa Royale Druskininkai hotel (2007–2008) and as Deputy Director of the Baltic Innovation Group (2005–2007).
From 2001 to 2004, Šukevičienė worked as an English and French language teacher at the Alytus Dzūkija Basic School.
Šukevičienė is one of the deputy leaders of the Social Democratic Party’s parliamentary faction in the Seimas (LSDP frakcijos seniūno pavaduotoja).
She became a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) in the 2024–2028 term, assuming office on 2024-11-14.
She served as the Vice Mayor of Alytus City Municipality from April 2019 until her election to the Seimas in 2024.
She served as an Alytus City Municipal Council member (and Vice Mayor) from April 2019 until resigning in November 2024 to assume her seat in the Seimas.
She has been a member of the Social Democratic Party since around 2011, and has stated that she has never switched her political affiliation.
Within the Social Democratic Party (LSDP), she serves as deputy chair of the Alytus city branch and is a member of the party’s national Council and Presidium.
On 2025-11-13, she was unanimously appointed as the Chair of the Seimas Committee on Education and Science.
In the Seimas, she has served as a member of both the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Affairs Committee.
In the 2024 Seimas elections (runoff on 27 October 2024), she won the Alytus district seat with 71.45% of the vote, defeating the incumbent MP Linas Slušnys (28.55%).
In the first round of the 2024 parliamentary elections (held on 13 October), Šukevičienė led the Alytus single-member constituency with 30.85% of the vote, more than double the share of her closest competitor, incumbent MP Linas Slušnys (14.25%).
Šukevičienė was elected to the Seimas in 2024 as the Social Democratic Party candidate for the single-member Alytus constituency (No. 30).
She was also included on the Social Democratic Party’s national list in the 2024 Seimas elections; however, since she won the Alytus single-member mandate, she entered Parliament through that constituency seat (and did not use a party-list seat).
In the March 2023 municipal elections, she was re-elected as an Alytus city councilor. The Social Democrats, led by Mayor Nerijus Cesiulis, won an absolute majority in the 27-member Alytus City Council.
Šukevičienė’s victory in 2024 returned the Alytus parliamentary seat to the Social Democrats after two terms under other parties – it had been won in 2016 by LVŽS candidate Robertas Šarknickas and in 2020 by TS-LKD candidate Linas Slušnys.
As Alytus Vice Mayor, Šukevičienė’s official gross monthly salary was about €2,672 in 2019–2020; upon becoming a Seimas member in late 2024, her base pay as an MP increased to roughly €4,000 per month (after taxes).
Official asset and income declarations over the past decade have not indicated any unusual wealth for Šukevičienė. Her declared assets have been modest – primarily consisting of routine personal property – and her earnings largely came from public sector salaries. Notably, she relinquished her stake in a Vilnius apartment in 2024 (transferring it to her minor son), leaving her with no real estate in the capital.
She is a member of the Alytus Zonta Club (a women’s service organization) and the Alytus Francophone Association.
She has volunteered with the Lithuanian Red Cross and is noted as a “frankofonė” (Francophile/Francophone) volunteer.
In 2025 it emerged that she was living in the Seimas members’ apartment building even though her partner owned a flat in Vilnius; Šukevičienė explained, “Šiuo metu neturiu gyvenamojo ploto Vilniuje, todėl gyvenu Seimo viešbutyje… šeimos nuosavybės neturiu” ("At the moment I have no living space in Vilnius, so I live in the Seimas hotel… I have no family property").
After being elected to parliament in 2024, Šukevičienė transferred her co-ownership of a Vilnius apartment to her underage son (in October 2024), which meant she personally owned no residence in Vilnius.
In November 2020, Alytus City Council held a no-confidence vote aimed at Vice Mayor Šukevičienė (accused of inactivity), but only 11 councilors voted for her removal—short of the 14 votes required—so she retained her position.
She was chosen as the chairperson of the parliamentary "Friends of Dzūkija" group (Dzūkijos bičiulių grupė) when it was established in December 2024 by MPs from the Dzūkija region.
In December 2024, she was appointed as the chairperson of the Seimas inter-parliamentary group for relations with France, and also serves as a deputy chairperson of the analogous group for relations with Canada.
