Laurynas Šedvydis was born on 5 September 1987 in Kaunas, Lithuania.

By profession he is a historian and academic (he holds a doctoral degree in history).

In 2016, he completed a doctoral degree (PhD) in History at Vytautas Magnus University.

In 2011, he obtained a Master’s degree in Lithuanian History from Vytautas Magnus University.

In 2009, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Vytautas Magnus University (VDU).

He completed his secondary education at VDU Rasos Gymnasium in Kaunas.

From 2020 until his election in 2024, he served as an advisor to Member of Seimas Gintautas Paluckas.

In 2019, he served as a key strategist for Aušra Maldeikienė’s European Parliament election campaign, though he chose not to join her team in Brussels.

From 2016 to 2020, he worked as an advisor and assistant to a member of the Seimas.

During 2016–2019 he was an advisor to Seimas member Aušra Maldeikienė, and in 2019–2020 he served as an assistant to Seimas member Rasa Budbergytė.

He was a lecturer and research fellow at Vytautas Magnus University from 2012 to 2024.

He has also worked as a translator and in media monitoring companies.

He has been serving as a Member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) since November 14, 2024 (the start of the 2024–2028 term).

He has been a member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) since 2020.

He is a board member of the LSDP’s Kaunas city branch.

He is a member of the Seimas Commission for the Rights of People with Disabilities (since December 2024).

He serves as the Chairman of the Seimas Committee on Human Rights, a position he assumed on November 21, 2024.

In the runoff of the 2024 Seimas election for Šilainiai, Social Democrat Laurynas Šedvydis secured 55.78% of the vote, defeating TS-LKD candidate Martynas Prievelis (40.31%).

He was elected to the Seimas in 2024 via the Šilainiai single-member constituency. In the first round on 8 October 2024 he placed second (13.83% of the vote), and in the 27 October runoff he defeated TS-LKD candidate Martynas Prievelis with 55.78% of the vote (Prievelis received 40.31%).

He was elected to the Seimas in the 2024 parliamentary elections, winning in the Šilainiai single-member constituency in Kaunas as an LSDP candidate.

He ran as a Social Democratic candidate in the 2020 parliamentary election (in the Šilainiai single-member constituency in Kaunas), but did not win a seat.

In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Šedvydis was the LSDP candidate in Kaunas’s Šilainiai single-member constituency and was listed as #100 on the party’s national list. He did not win a seat in that election.

As a Member of Seimas, his base salary is approximately 2,000 euros per month after taxes.

He is the head of the parliamentary Provisional Group “For the Future of Lithuanian Football”, which was established on 17 December 2024.

In late 2024, he joined numerous parliamentary groups for inter-parliamentary relations, including groups with countries such as Romania, Spain, the Nordic countries, Croatia, Türkiye, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Ukraine.

He is also a collaborator with the LSDP’s analytical center “Solidarumo institutas” (Solidarity Institute).

He publicly supported a controversial 2025 proposal to ease the dismissal of the LRT public broadcaster’s director, and he criticized the incumbent LRT general director Monika Garbačiauskaitė-Budrienė.

On October 29, 2025, he announced that by the end of that week he would register a bill to legalize same-sex partnerships, calling it more liberal than the earlier civil union proposal.

As Human Rights Committee Chair in 2025, he noted that about 11,000 children rely on Lithuania’s maintenance fund due to parents avoiding child support, with around €20 million in unpaid support (only ~€4 million recovered annually).

He suggested implementing long-term sanctions for parents who evade child support, such as restricting their driving or hunting licenses or garnishing a portion of their pension contributions.

In June 2025, he said he would distribute a questionnaire to fellow parliamentarians to identify what type of same-sex partnership bill could secure sufficient support in the Seimas.

In April 2025, he initiated the first-ever Lithuanian Game Industry Day event in the Seimas to showcase the achievements of the video game industry.

In late 2019, he launched a podcast called “Sekmadienio varieté su Laurynu Šedvydžiu,” which focuses on current politics, the excesses of capitalism, and historical analysis.

He speaks multiple languages, including English and Polish (advanced), Russian (advanced), as well as some German and Latin.

He has also been known as a member of a Lithuanian punk/alternative band called “Gėdos stulpas.”

He is an avid music and sports enthusiast – he plays guitar and sings in a band, is a passionate football fan, and enjoys nature outings in Lithuania.

He has two pet cats named Moka and Morkus.
