Buvo Europos Parlamento narys nuo 2014 iki 2024 metų, o nuo 2024 m. lapkričio 14 d. – Seimo narys. Ankstesniuose savo karjeros etapuose vadovavo Ignalinos rajono savivaldybei ir dirbo įvairiose inžinerinėse pozicijose.
Bronis Ropė has also held several organizational roles beyond his elected offices – he served on the committee of the Lithuanian Basketball “A” League, was a board member of the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania, and sat on the board overseeing the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning social impact fund.
He is a member of the Political Group of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union and the Christian Families Alliance in the Seimas (since 14 November 2024).
From 2014 to 2024, Bronis Ropė was a member of the Greens/European Free Alliance political group in the European Parliament.
He served as the President of the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania from 2000 to 2003, and then as a Vice-President of the Association from 2003 onward.
On 15 October 2025, Bronis Ropė became the Chair of the Seimas Committee on Rural Affairs.
He was a member of the Seimas Committee on Rural Affairs from 19 November 2024 until 14 October 2025.
In October 2022, Bronis Ropė became a Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the EU–Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, a position he held until 2024.
During his tenure as an MEP, Ropė served on the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.
As a Member of the European Parliament, he served on the Delegation for relations with Belarus and on the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Bronis Ropė was elected to the Seimas via the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union’s nationwide party list. He was ranked among the top candidates on the list and secured his seat in the multi-member constituency. (LVŽS obtained 8 seats in total; another LVŽS candidate, Ignas Vėgėlė, garnered over 31,000 preferential votes, catapulting from last to second place on the list.)
He was elected to the Seimas in 2024 as a candidate on the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union’s party list.
He was re-elected as a Member of the European Parliament in the 2019 elections, serving a second term from 2019 to 2024.
In the 2014 Lithuanian presidential election, Bronis Ropė received 4.14% of the vote in the first round.
In 2004, Bronis Ropė was elected to the Seimas on the Union of Farmers and New Democracy Parties list, but he declined to assume the parliamentary mandate in order to continue serving as Ignalina’s mayor.
He was repeatedly re-elected as Mayor of Ignalina District Municipality, winning local municipal elections in 1995, 1997, 2000, 2003, and 2007.
As a Seimas member (from 2024), his base monthly pay "into hand" is set to increase to roughly €3,781 (from about €2,183 previously) under a new salary law implemented with the 2024–2028 Parliament.
Following the 2024 elections, Bronis Ropė was noted as one of eight parliamentarians in the new Seimas whose declared personal assets exceed €1 million.
By 2023, according to his Seimas election asset declaration, Ropė’s total wealth had grown to over €1 million – including approximately €734,000 in cash, €175,000 in real estate (and other registrable property), and €147,000 in securities, artwork, and other valuables.
As a Member of the European Parliament (2014–2024), Bronis Ropė earned a gross monthly salary of about €9,000 (over €7,000 net after taxes).
Between 2014 and 2023, Bronis Ropė’s declared net worth increased roughly tenfold (from around €116,000 to over €1,000,000). This substantial rise coincided with his ten years as a European Parliament member, indicating that his accumulation of wealth is largely attributable to his official earnings rather than unexplained sources.
When running for President in 2014, Bronis Ropė declared assets totaling about 400,000 LTL (≈€116,000 at the time) and liabilities of 28,472 LTL (≈€8,245). His declared assets included 200,062 LTL worth of real estate and registrable property, a small amount (600 LTL) in securities/art, and 201,198 LTL in cash savings.
During his tenure as Ignalina District Mayor (1995–2014), his monthly salary was relatively modest – on the order of €1,300–€1,500 (estimated, based on typical mayoral pay in small municipalities during the 2000s).
Since December 2024, he has been the head of the Seimas Inter-Parliamentary Relations Group with the Republic of Bulgaria.
Under his leadership, Ignalina achieved the lowest heating prices in Lithuania by using only local (non-imported) fuel.
As Mayor of Ignalina, Ropė initiated a large-scale home renovation program that became a model for energy efficiency nationwide.
He was a member of Lithuania’s delegation to the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, representing the country’s local governments at the international level.
