He ran as the Homeland Union’s candidate for Mayor of Vilnius in the 2019 municipal elections.

In the 2012 Seimas elections, Kreivys ran in the Fabijoniškės single-member constituency (No. 5) and advanced to the runoff with 18.18% of the vote (just ahead of Artūras Paulauskas’s 17.09%); he then won the second round with about 56.8% of votes, defeating Paulauskas.

In 2016, he switched to run in the Verkiai constituency (No. 12, Vilnius) and won the seat. In the runoff he secured 57.01% of the vote against Liberal Movement candidate Gintaras Steponavičius, who received 35.33%.

Kreivys retained his seat again in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Running in Verkiai (No. 12), he won in a second round with 57.61% of the vote against Social Democrat Algirdas Sysas (40.58%).

In the 2012 Seimas elections, Kreivys was initially ranked 18th on the Homeland Union’s national candidate list; he received 7,338 preferential votes, which lifted him to 11th place on the final list (the party won 13 seats in the multi-member constituency).

In the 2019 Vilnius mayoral election, Kreivys finished fourth in the first round with 9.06% of the vote. He did not advance to the runoff, which was contested by incumbent Remigijus Šimašius (37.3% in the first round) and former mayor Artūras Zuokas (22.7%).

Responding to public speculation about his wealth, Kreivys revealed that in his official 2009 asset declaration he had about 483 000 litai (approx. €140 000) in assets and 109 343 LTL (~€32 000) in cash savings. His wife’s 2009 declaration showed 175 372 LTL (~€50 800) in assets and 34 000 LTL (~€9 800) of savings.

By 2021, as Minister of Energy, Kreivys had become the wealthiest member of the Cabinet. His declared assets for that year totaled about €1.124 million (including approximately €548 000 in apartments and €205 500 in corporate shares), and he reported roughly €269 000 in outstanding loans.

In 2023, Kreivys’s family declared assets worth approximately €1.551 million in total – a significant rise from two years earlier – and notably, they no longer had a previously declared debt of about €387 500 (which had been cleared by 2023).

As a Member of Seimas, Kreivys earns the standard parliamentary salary (around €4 000 per month after taxes as of 2023). A cabinet minister’s monthly pay is slightly higher (roughly on the order of €5 000 net, estimated), reflecting the greater responsibilities of ministerial office.

Kreivys and his long-time business partner Mindaugas Sinkevičius jointly control the company UAB "Catus", in which Kreivys holds a 40% stake.

Through UAB "Catus", Kreivys indirectly owned 40% of the construction firm UAB "Statybų gausa", which built the “Saulėti namai” apartment complex in Vilnius.

In July 2022, as Energy Minister, Kreivys signed the first-ever Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. Department of Energy and Lithuania’s Ministry of Energy to enhance cooperation on energy sector cybersecurity and support Lithuania’s transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2050.

In March 2025, Kreivys, during his term as Minister of Energy, represented Lithuania at the EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council in Brussels, advocating for enhanced protection and resilience of critical energy infrastructure and highlighting Baltic leadership in energy independence.

Kreivys has acknowledged transferring some of his business assets to his mother. Notably, he sold the shares of the company UAB “Stamija” to his mother in late 2008 (with all such transactions duly declared to the ethics authorities), and he pointed out that his mother had been a shareholder in those businesses since 2002, before his ministerial tenure.

The public company AB "Specializuota komplektavimo valdyba" (SKV), in which Kreivys’s mother Filomena Kreivienė was a shareholder, served as the main supplier for the “Moki-veži” building materials retail chain. Media investigations indicated that the largest cash flows from the Moki-veži stores went into SKV, controlled by Kreivys’s mother and an associate.

In March 2011, Lithuania’s ethics commission (VTEK) concluded that Kreivys violated public service conflict-of-interest laws by signing an order that allocated EU funds to school renovations involving a company (SKV) in which his mother was a shareholder.

Following the ethics commission’s findings, Kreivys announced his resignation as Minister of Economy on 8 March 2011.

In 2024, an LRT investigation reported that Kreivys had employed his business partner’s wife, Laima Sinkevičienė, as his parliamentary adviser (and campaign treasurer) while she simultaneously served as an adviser to another minister.

He faced scrutiny over a Vilnius apartment project “Saulėti namai” linked to him: the building permit was issued illegally on land meant for public use, but a 2019 settlement with city authorities allowed the project to proceed.

In 2022, it emerged that Kreivys’s business partner had acquired shares of the state energy company "Ignitis" while Kreivys was Energy Minister; after public scrutiny, those shares were sold off a few months later.

In mid-September 2022, the opposition Social Democratic Party initiated a parliamentary interpellation (no-confidence motion) against Energy Minister Kreivys, questioning his handling of the energy sector – including scandals in the electricity market’s liberalization, negligent oversight of independent power suppliers, and the losses incurred when the supplier "Perlas Energija" halted its operations.

On 27 September 2022, the Seimas held a no-confidence vote on Kreivys’s interpellation, but it failed to gather enough votes to remove him – allowing Kreivys to continue serving as Minister of Energy despite opposition accusations that he mismanaged the energy crisis and soaring electricity prices.

In January 2011, media reports claimed that Kreivys’s wealth had surged to about 170 million litai (approximately €49 million) – because his family allegedly owned 40% of the “Moki veži” hardware retail chain – and opposition MPs demanded an inquiry by the ethics commission into this rapid enrichment. Kreivys refuted the allegations, noting that his public 2009 declarations showed only comparatively modest assets and no such massive increase in wealth.

In early 2011, just before the ethics commission examined his case, Kreivys revised his declarations to include two previously unreported share-sale transactions involving his companies. He disclosed that he had sold his shares in UAB “Baldenis” on December 5, 2008 and in UAB “Stamija” on February 14, 2009 – corrections made in advance of the VTEK hearing on his conflict-of-interest case.

In 2020, he criticized plans to launch the Astravets nuclear plant in Belarus without fixing all safety issues, warning that Lithuania would "never again have the opportunity to stop this monster."
