Taip pat buvo Akmenės rajono savivaldybės tarybos narys 2019–2023 m., nuo 2025 m. susidūrė su teisiniais iššūkiais dėl piktnaudžiavimo ir dokumentų klastojimo. Jis turi verslo patirties, įskaitant individualią įmonę „Hemiris“ ir bendrovę Baltarusijoje. Bucevičius moka rusų, lenkų ir vokiečių kalbas, yra išsituokęs ir turi du vaikus.
Bucevičius hails from an entrepreneurial family. His father, Stanislovas Bucevičius, has run a private business in Naujoji Akmenė since the late 1990s (an individual enterprise founded in 1998).
In 1968, as an infant, Bucevičius moved with his family to Naujoji Akmenė, where he grew up.
Saulius Bucevičius was born on 10 October 1967 in Pavandenės village, Kelmė district, Lithuania.
He studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (now Lithuanian Sports University) and specialized in tourism and sports management from 2008 to 2012.
In 2024, he worked as the director of the Telšiai Bus Park company (UAB Telšių autobusų parkas).
In 2021, Bucevičius became an assistant and advisor to Members of the Seimas Vytautas Jukna and Artūras Skardžius, positions he held until returning to the Seimas himself in 2024.
From 2017 until 2019, he was the director of the Telšiai Bus Park company (UAB Telšių autobusų parkas).
After leaving Parliament in 2016, Bucevičius was hired as director of the Telšiai Bus Park company (UAB Telšių autobusų parkas) in late 2017. He took charge of the struggling municipal bus enterprise in September 2017, aiming to improve its financial situation and update its aging fleet.
After leaving the Seimas in 2016, Bucevičius briefly served as the director of a private company, UAB “ABL”, from 2016 to 2017.
He reorganized "Hemiris" into a limited liability company (UAB) in 1998 and served as its director until 2004.
He served as the general director of UAB “Ferteksa” from 1994 to 1995.
In 1988–1989 he worked as a waiter at the private enterprise “Birutė”, and from 1989 to 1995 he was a barman at the “Luokavėlė” café in Naujoji Akmenė.
Since November 2024, Bucevičius has been a member of the “Nemuno Aušra” political group (parliamentary faction) in the Seimas.
In mid-2024, Bucevičius aligned with the newly established party “Nemuno Aušra” and was included in its list of candidates for the Seimas elections that year.
Having left the Labour Party for the Liberal Movement in 2016, Bucevičius rejoined the Labour Party by 2019 and remained with it until 2024, when he left to join the newly formed party “Nemuno Aušra”.
He was a member of the Akmenė District Municipal Council during the 2019–2023 term.
In April 2016, he left the Labour Party’s Seimas group and joined the Liberal Movement’s parliamentary faction.
In April 2016, Bucevičius announced his departure from the Labour Party after stating he would not run in the 2016 elections under its banner and was considering an offer to be a Liberal Movement candidate.
Bucevičius was Deputy Head (Vice Elder) of the Labour Party’s parliamentary faction in the Seimas from January 2005 to July 2006.
He has been a member of the Labour Party (Darbo partija) since 2003.
Since 2003, he also served as the chairman of the Labour Party’s Akmenė District branch.
Upon returning to the Seimas in late 2024, Bucevičius was appointed Chairman of the Seimas Committee on Economics. He assumed the committee’s leadership on 21 November 2024 as part of the new governing majority.
He was a member of the Seimas Ethics and Procedures Commission from 2015 until the end of the 2012–2016 parliamentary term.
Bucevičius served as the Chair of the Seimas Committee on Rural Affairs for most of the 2012–2016 term (from November 2012 until May 2016).
In the 2008–2012 term, he served as a member of the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission.
From late 2006 until 2008, he was a member of the Seimas Committee on Budget and Finance.
During 2004–2006, he served as a member of the Seimas Committee on Economics.
In the 2024 Seimas elections, the newly formed party “Nemuno Aušra” (of which Bucevičius was a candidate) won nearly 15% of the national vote, making it the third-largest party. The party secured 20 seats in the Seimas, allowing Bucevičius to return to parliament via its multi-member list.
After an eight-year hiatus, Bucevičius was elected to the Seimas again in 2024 via the party list of “Nemuno Aušra”, assuming office on 14 November 2024.
In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Bucevičius ran in the Žemaitijos Šiaurinė single-member constituency as the Labour Party’s candidate, placing third in the first round (and thus not advancing to the runoff).
In the 2019 municipal elections, Bucevičius ran for the post of Akmenė District Mayor as a candidate of the Liberal Movement.
Bucevičius ran for Akmenė District Mayor in the March 2019 municipal elections as the Liberal Movement’s candidate, but he lost to the incumbent mayor, Vitalijus Mitrofanovas of the Social Democratic Party (LSDP).
In the 2016 parliamentary elections, Bucevičius ran in the Akmenė–Mažeikiai single-member constituency as a Liberal Movement candidate. He finished third in the first round (with roughly 9–10% of the vote) and did not advance to the runoff, which was contested by LVŽS candidate Valius Ąžuolas (25.9% in the first round) and LSDP’s Tomas Martinaitis (22.7%).
In the 2016 parliamentary elections, Bucevičius ran in the Akmenė–Mažeikiai single-member constituency as a Liberal Movement candidate, but he did not win a seat in the Seimas.
In the 2012 Seimas elections, Bucevičius again won re-election in Akmenė–Joniškis. In the runoff on 28 October 2012, he prevailed over Social Democrat Zofija Paulikienė, receiving 6,210 votes (about 62% of valid ballots) to Paulikienė’s 3,786 votes (~38%).
He again won a seat in the Seimas in the 2012 elections, elected in the Akmenė–Joniškis constituency (No. 39) as a Labour Party candidate.
In the 2008 Seimas elections, Bucevičius retained his seat by winning a runoff in the Akmenė–Joniškis constituency. In the second round, he defeated Edmundas Grigaliūnas (of the Order and Justice party), securing roughly 60% of the vote (around 7,000 votes) to Grigaliūnas’s ~40% (4,768 votes).
He was re-elected to the Seimas in 2008 from the same Akmenė–Joniškis constituency (No. 39) representing the Labour Party.

As of 2024, an ordinary Seimas member’s salary (which Bucevičius receives) is approximately €4,000 per month “in hand” (about €4.5k gross monthly), following pay raises implemented that year.
Bucevičius’s personal wealth and income, as reflected in official declarations, appear modest. He has not featured among the top wealthy politicians. (For example, the richest Seimas members declare assets near €1 million, whereas Bucevičius’s asset levels have not been publicly highlighted, indicating they are much lower.)
In 2000, he founded a company in the city of Molodečno, Belarus.
In 1995, Bucevičius established his own business, an individual enterprise called “Hemiris”, which was engaged in trade and food production.
On 7 October 2025, the Seimas voted to lift Saulius Bucevičius’s parliamentary immunity to allow his prosecution (82 MPs in favor, 6 against, 10 abstentions).
In late September 2025, amid the “Čekiukų” expense-report scandal, Bucevičius announced he would voluntarily waive his parliamentary immunity via a simplified procedure. He told reporters that he was willing to give up his immunity and defend himself in order to prove his innocence.
Law enforcement authorities suspect Bucevičius of abuse of office, document forgery, use of a forged document, and misappropriation of property.
He has been charged in connection with the Labour Party’s “black accounting” case, accused of giving false testimony by claiming that the Akmenė District Labour Party branch (which he led in 2003–2016) was funded solely by membership fees.
As a member of the Akmenė District Council, he allegedly submitted four falsified expense reports and unlawfully obtained over €800 in reimbursements.
In 2003, Saulius Bucevičius won a national contest for small and medium business development, an honor awarded by the Lithuanian Small and Medium Business Confederation and the Ministry of Economy.
He served in the Soviet Army from 1986 to 1988.
He speaks multiple languages, including Russian, Polish, and German.
Bucevičius is divorced and has two children.
