Agnė Bilotaitė

Agnė Bilotaitė was born on January 29, 1982, in Klaipėda, Lithuania.

She speaks English, German, and Russian.

She is in a domestic partnership and has two sons, Jonas and Benas.

In 2012, she earned a Master’s degree in Law from Mykolas Romeris University.

In 2004, she studied in an exchange program at the Military Academy in Munich, Germany.

She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Klaipėda University, studying from 2002 to 2006.

She finished her secondary education at Klaipėda’s Vėtrungė Gymnasium in 2000.

In 2007, before becoming a parliamentarian, Bilotaitė worked as an assistant to a member of the Seimas.

In 2006, she worked as a manager for the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) in the Western region.

In 2003, she was the owner of a domestic freight transport company, a family business.

In 2024, she became the chair of the Seimas Women’s Parliamentary Group.

She served as the Minister of the Interior of Lithuania from December 2020 until 2024.

In mid-2017, Bilotaitė chaired a parliamentary working group that drafted a new Whistleblower Protection Law for Lithuania, forging consensus among institutions on legal protections for people reporting corruption.

From 2011 to 2012, she served as chair of the TS-LKD Klaipėda District branch.

She chaired the TS-LKD Youth Community from 2009 to 2013.

Bilotaitė has been a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) since 2008, winning re-election in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 (five consecutive terms).

She led the TS-LKD’s Klaipėda regional branch assembly and the Western Region Coordinating Council from 2008 until 2022.

Bilotaitė has been a member of the Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) since 2006.

Since December 2024, she has also served as a member of the Seimas commission for parliamentary oversight of criminal intelligence operations.

As of the 2024–2028 term, she is a member of the Seimas Committee on Legal Affairs and (until late 2025) served in the European Affairs Committee.

During the 2020–2024 term, she served as a member of the Seimas Budget and Finance Committee.

She was a member of the Seimas Audit Committee again during the 2016–2020 term.

In the 2012–2016 Seimas term, she was on the Environmental Protection Committee (2012–2013) and later on the State Administration and Local Authorities Committee (2013–2016).

During 2008–2012, her first term in Seimas, she was Vice-Chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission and a member of the Audit Committee.

In the 2024 Seimas election, Bilotaitė advanced to the runoff in Vilnius’s Pietinė single-member constituency with 20.7% of the vote in the first round, but she lost in the second round. She was re-elected via the TS-LKD national list (where she was among the top-ranked candidates).

She ran as a TS-LKD candidate in the 2024 European Parliament elections, but did not win a seat.

In the 2024 parliamentary elections, she was listed 7th on the TS-LKD national list and also campaigned in the Vilniaus pietinė single-member constituency; as in previous elections, she secured her Seimas seat via the multi-member list.

In 2019, she ran as a candidate for Mayor of Klaipėda in the municipal elections.

In parliamentary elections, Bilotaitė has been elected via her party’s national list rather than a single-mandate constituency.

As of 2023, Bilotaitė declared approximately €61,000 in annual income (primarily from her official salary) and about €37,360 in total assets.

As a Seimas member, Bilotaitė’s official salary was approximately €3,434 per month before taxes (around €2,200 after taxes, estimated) in 2023.

According to her 2022 declaration, Bilotaitė’s total assets amounted to €37,360 (all in cash), virtually unchanged from the prior year.

As Minister of the Interior (2020–2024), she earned roughly €4,500 gross per month on average (around €3,000 net, depending on seniority).

She chaired a parliamentary group called “For Lithuania Without Corruption” from 2010 to 2012.

Lithuania’s Constitutional Court ruled in 2023 that the government’s 2021 policy of detaining irregular migrants (implemented under Bilotaitė’s ministry) was unconstitutional, leading to parliamentary scrutiny of her actions.

In June 2021, an investigation revealed that Bilotaitė held undeclared meetings with road transport lobbyists (the Linava association) and subsequently signed an order easing requirements for companies to hire more foreign workers, a decision that benefited those lobbyists.

In July 2019, the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) ruled that a magazine interview and cover featuring Bilotaitė constituted undisclosed political advertising during the mayoral election campaign.

In 2007, she obtained a 600,000 Lt (approximately €174,000) bank loan to build a house in Dauparai village (Klaipėda district) despite having no formal employment at the time. In 2015, allegations arose that this loan might have been an illicit favor and that her fully built house remained unregistered to avoid property taxes.

In February 2024, as Interior Minister, she touted Lithuania’s rapid construction of a physical barrier and high-tech surveillance along its border with Belarus, suggesting it could become a model for other EU countries’ border security.

In October 2021, Bilotaitė said that the most difficult part of her role was hearing remarks that she should be doing things like “raising children” instead of serving in office – comments made "just because I am a woman."

In June 2021, as Interior Minister, Bilotaitė accused Belarus of deliberately sending migrants into Lithuania as a "well-organized" and "planned" operation for profit.

In 2025, Bilotaitė was selected as a 2025–2026 Obama Foundation Europe Leader, a program recognizing emerging leaders in Europe.

In November 2024, the Lithuanian Fire and Rescue Department honored Bilotaitė with a second-class “For Assistance to Neighbour” cross for her merits as Interior Minister.
