Valius Ąžuolas was born on April 28, 1979, in the town of Kruopiai, Akmenė district, Lithuania.
He obtained a Master’s degree in Agroecology from Aleksandras Stulginskis University (now Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy) in 2018.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from Aleksandras Stulginskis University in 2015.
Since November 2016, he has been a full-time Seimas member, a position with an official salary of roughly €3,000 gross per month (about €2,000 net take-home pay, estimated).
From 1997 to 2016, Ąžuolas worked as a farmer in a crop farming enterprise.
He is a member of the 14th Seimas, having been sworn in on November 14, 2024 for the 2024–2028 parliamentary term.
He served as a member of the 13th Seimas from November 13, 2020 to November 14, 2024 (the 2020–2024 parliamentary term).
During the 2020–2024 term, Ąžuolas served as the LVŽS opposition’s shadow Minister of Finance, effectively acting as the party’s alternative finance minister while in opposition.
Ąžuolas served as a member of the 12th Seimas of Lithuania during the 2016–2020 parliamentary term.
He was re-elected to the Akmenė District Municipal Council in 2015 and served until 2016 (prior to joining the Seimas).
Since 2014, he has served as the chairman of the LVŽS party’s Akmenė district branch.
He served as a member of the Akmenė District Municipal Council from 2011 to 2015.
Valius Ąžuolas has been a member of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS) since 2008.
From April 27, 2023 to November 14, 2024, he served as a member of the Seimas Energy and Sustainable Development Commission.
Ąžuolas was a member of the Seimas Budget and Finance Committee throughout the 2020–2024 term.
He was a member of the Seimas Youth and Sports Affairs Commission during the 2020–2024 term.
From December 17, 2020 to September 14, 2021, he served as a member of the Seimas Committee for the Future.
He was a member of the Seimas Budget and Finance Committee during 2016–2020 and served as its chairman in 2019–2020.
During the 2016–2020 term, he was also a member of the Seimas Youth and Sports Affairs Commission.
In the 2024 parliamentary elections, the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS) received about 7.02% of the national vote in the multi-member constituency, earning 6 seats in the Seimas. Valius Ąžuolas secured one of those six seats as a list candidate for LVŽS (being the last-listed LVŽS candidate to enter the 2024–2028 Seimas).
In the 2024 elections, Ąžuolas secured a seat in the Seimas via the LVŽS party list (proportional representation).
Ąžuolas was re-elected in 2020 as the representative for the new Northern Žemaitija single-member constituency, once again defeating Tomas Martinaitis (LSDP) in the runoff by a wide margin.
In the first round of the 2020 parliamentary elections, Valius Ąžuolas led the Žemaitijos šiaurinė single-member constituency with 42.29% of the vote, far ahead of his main rival (Social Democrat Tomas Martinaitis, who received 16.49%). Ąžuolas went on to win the seat in the runoff.
Ąžuolas was re-elected to the Seimas in 2020 by winning the Žemaitijos šiaurinė (Northern Žemaitija) constituency, again defeating Tomas Martinaitis (LSDP).
In 2016, Ąžuolas won the Akmenė–Mažeikiai constituency runoff with 61.91% of the vote (approximately 8,461 votes), defeating Social Democrat Tomas Martinaitis.
In the 2016 parliamentary elections, Ąžuolas was elected in the Akmenė–Mažeikiai single-member constituency, defeating Social Democrat Tomas Martinaitis.
By 2022, Ąžuolas and his wife had a combined declared wealth of about €1.52 million. In 2023, their family assets slightly decreased to approximately €1.397 million.
In his 2020 asset declaration (filed in 2021), Ąžuolas reported approximately €738,624 in total assets. This included about €28,962 in residential buildings, €15,000 in other structures, €462,406 in land, and roughly €139,742 in other valuable property. He also disclosed having lent out €192,700 that had not been repaid to him.
Between 2019 and 2022, Ąžuolas’s declared net worth nearly doubled – from roughly €0.83 million to about €1.52 million – indicating a rapid increase in his assets over a few years.
According to his 2019 asset declaration, Ąžuolas’s personal assets were valued at approximately €828,000, including about €496,806 in land, €28,962 in residential real estate, and €302,709 in other registrable property (vehicles, equipment, collectibles, etc.).
Valius Ąžuolas is a council member of the Lithuanian Young Farmers Circle Union and the Akmenė District Farmers Union, and he sits on the supervisory board of the “Tikroji viltis” credit union.
Valius Ąžuolas has served as a member of the presidium of the Lithuanian Chamber of Agriculture (Lietuvos žemės ūkio rūmai).
In June 2025, Ąžuolas was involved in a heated exchange with conservative MPs Laurynas Kasčiūnas and Žygimantas Pavilionis. After Ąžuolas made contentious remarks about Lithuanian volunteers killed in Ukraine, Pavilionis insulted him as a “šiknius” (a derogatory term), and Ąžuolas responded by challenging Kasčiūnas to a one-on-one confrontation, saying that in his village they would call such a person a coward.
In March 2025, Ąžuolas drew criticism for appearing to disrespect visiting Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili by sitting with his back turned during her address to the Seimas. The behavior angered some fellow lawmakers, though Ąžuolas’s party leader Aurelijus Veryga downplayed the incident.
An LRT investigation in 2022 found that Ąžuolas was among the MPs whose private interest declarations had long been unavailable to the public, leaving unclear whether he had undisclosed business ties or conflicts of interest.
An initiative by journalist Andrius Tapinas revealed that Valius Ąžuolas spent almost €29,000 of parliamentary funds on souvenirs and representative gifts (during 2021–2023).
In March 2021, Ąžuolas missed a plenary Seimas session (the start of the spring session), with his assistant initially citing health issues, but it was later discovered that he had urgently flown to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt with his wife without permission from the Seimas Board.
In June 2020, as chairman of the Seimas Budget and Finance Committee, Valius Ąžuolas was questioned by law enforcement as a witness in an investigation into possible unlawful influence on the legislative process.
In December 2019, fellow MP Justas Džiugelis criticized Ąžuolas for not recusing himself from a Seimas debate on abolishing land tax breaks for large landowners, noting that Ąžuolas’s family owned about 600 hectares of land (above the threshold of the proposed restriction).
In late 2019, an ethics complaint was filed (by MP Aistė Gedvilienė) accusing Ąžuolas of a potential conflict of interest for initiating credit union legislation that could benefit a credit union in which he was a shareholder ("Tikroji viltis").
He publicly criticized the "Galimybių pasas" (COVID-19 health pass), calling it an occupation of the Constitution and of human rights.
In 2014, he won first place in the "Metų ūkis" (Farm of the Year) competition for advanced farming practices.
In 2013, for his support and active participation in the community, he was inscribed in the Kruopiai ward’s “Aukso raidės” (Golden Letters) book of honor.
Valius Ąžuolas speaks English and Russian in addition to Lithuanian.
He is married to his wife Sandra and they have three children: two sons, Ignas and Arnas, and a daughter, Marta.
Valius Ąžuolas is one of the largest farmers in his hometown of Kruopiai, managing approximately 600 hectares of land (around 200 ha in his own name and about 400 ha in his mother’s name).
